Ads Blocker

The display screen of android phones is quite small when compared to the screen of a laptop or personal computer.  The main reason for making above comparison was to explain the difference in user experience while viewing the content on respective screens. The features such as zoom and stretch help a user to view content but only to a certain extent. Many applications exploit this weakness and display annoying advertisements.

Sometimes, it becomes quite irritating from user’s point of view. Even users of tablets find it difficult to operate in desired manner. In the section below, we have discussed about blocking ads on android phones.

Ads can be broadly classified into two categories.

  • Adds on webpage
  • Adds on installed applications

To block ads on webpage you will require blocking the address of add-center in the web-browser being used on your android. Doing so will help in most of the situations but user must take care that they block the add-center and not the websites (or as desired).

Ad Free is an application, which serves the purpose of blocking advertisements on your Android phone.  This application is free to use and share but requires rooting permissions.  You can download and install this application.

Fact:

No matter whatever we try to block advertisements few applications continue with their ad-display regime. It is highly recommended that a user installs only required applications and avoid use of problematic apps. The golden rule for such scenario is “prevention is better than cure” and it applies here. Moreover, some applications might stop working after installing Ad-free application.

The advertisement identification/detection on applications is quite difficult in comparison to web pages. It is also recommended to update Ad-Free installation to receive latest fixes. This is like continuous chase in between Tom and Jerry.

Ethical aspect:

Many websites provide information & services for free and ads are the only source for their revenue. Blocking ads will surely affect their revenue, which will be considered somewhat unethical. Most of the useful sites usually abide by the standard guidelines for displaying advertisements and are easy to access over smartphones.
