Finally after very much anticipation Motorola with Verizon has launched its very first Android Superphone, yes we are talking about Motorola Droid Bionic, a 4G powered Android device. Motorola came up with a very nice commercial for Bionic but what describes a phone very much is its hardware and software support which we will discuss below.
Motorola Bionic Hardware Support:-
The hardware support of Motorola phone’s is always stupendous so is the case with Bionic but if you look Bionic carefully you can see how similar it is with the Droid X and Droid X2. The looks of Bionic is somewhat matches with the Droid series of Motorola and having Bionic, feels you are using the same Droid phone with different specifications.
- Bionic on its left side features micro-HDMI ports and micro-USB ports; both having great significance as used to charge and attach phone while syncing. HDMI of Bionic allows you to have video playback of 1080p and the very famous mirror modes for apps and games also available.
- The weight of the phone is still a concern which is about 156 grams.
- If you look to the right side of Bionic, just like Droid X and Droid X2, Motorola has given Bionic a cleaner look with an elegant design which features an aluminum volume up and down rocker. It is provided with a natural curve at the top and at the end which makes it easy to hold in hand.
- At the bottom side of Bionic, there is nothing except the regular microphone pin hole is provided.
- Now at the top, there is a 3.5 mm Headphone jack and a button to switch on/off the phone i.e. power wake/sleep button. Motorola does a nice job by placing the power button at the very top edge of phone but there you can see the space for battery cover, so when you reach out to remove battery cover, there are chances that your finger touches the power button unintentionally and it may trouble you later. But this issue can be neglected as you need to handle everything with attention and care.
- On the back i.e. rear side if we see, there we have a high quality 8MP cam with dual LED flash which is capable of recording videos up to 1080p. It also features logo of Verizon, Google, 4G LTE with a speaker grill and a noise cancellation pin hole.
- The back of the phone is scratch resistant with a soft touch matte design.
OS Support of Bionic:-
- Bionic is powered with 4430 TI OMAP 1.0 Ghz dual-core processor with 1 GB RAM.
- It comes with total external memory storage of 32 GB, including a 16 GB micro-SD card provided with the phone and an onboard 16 GB memory.
- It screen size is 4.3” 540×960 qHD which has a brilliant display and has VGA camera for low light video chatting.
- It is about 13.3 mm thick at its peak and about 11.3 mm at the thinnest point of it. When the critics compared the thickness of the phone with the Droid X and the Samsung Galaxy II’s which are less than 11 mm and 10 mm respectively, Bionic lacks but when it’s 4G LTE capability is seen it leads them without any second thought.
- The screen resolution of the phone is still a concern as it doesn’t match up with the AMOLED screen of Samsung Galaxy S2 but it does very fine job with its bright colors.
- Bionic is powered with Texas Instrument OMAP 4 series CPU instead of using NVIDIA Tegra 2 just like in Photon 4G or Sensation 4G’s Qualcomm processor.
Software Support of Motorola Bionic:-
- Still a concern why Motorola launched Bionic with Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread firmware support which comes with new skin i.e. Motorola’s “Blur” UI.
- As Android 2.3.4 is there we have Google Talk video Chat which does very well with the front facing camera which is capable of low light video chatting.
- Pre-Installed Applications:- Verizon bloatware and V CAST Apps for videos, music with Blockbuster and Amazon Kindle.
Performance of Bionic:-
- Its dual core processor does a very good job when you surf with 4G LTE mode. When HTC Magic, Moto Droid, Sony Ericson Xperia X10i, HTC Desire, Nexus One, Samsung Galaxy S, Moto Droid X, Nexus One 2.2+ are compared with Bionic in running speeds of processor Bionic beats all (Comparison with Samsung Galaxy S2 has not been made).
Camera and Battery Life of Bionic:-
- It features an 8MP cam with dual LED flash which takes very nice pictures both indoors and outside, the only problem associated with it is its “auto focus feature” which is very slow, taking about 2 sec. to develop focus on an image.
- 1735 mAh battery is added in Bionic, which is very well when compared to its previous released phones; it seems Motorola has overcome its battery deficiency image.
4G LTE Speed Test Result of Bionic:-
- When carried out a test with SPEEDTEST.NET the result of 4G speed of Bionic is amazing. It is capable of providing up to 13 Mbps downloading speed and up to 2-3 Mbps uploading speed.
- It is the very first phone of Motorola under Verizon 4G LTE network so when loading of games, buffering of You Tubes videos is concerned, it performances extremely well. When T-Mobile is compared with Bionic speed results, it is far away with it and WiMAX can’t even beat its 3G results.
By considering so many stupendous features of Bionic, it really seems to be the Android Superphone.
