Do you like to be able to get as many functions and specifications on your Nook Tablet and turn it around and have the fully functional Honeycomb tablet? Rooting this Nook Tablet greatly expands the slate’s horizons having the addition of the Android Market.
Barnes & Noble has the Nook Tablet offering meatier specifications than the Amazon’s Kindle Fire for just one half the price in the iPad, and but the selection of applications on the offer for the tablet/e-Reader compound is a little bit disappointing. Luckily, this will take only less than thirty minutes to be able to turn the Nook into the wholly functional Honeycomb tablet having access into this Android Market.
Before this Nook Tablet and this Kindle Fire came along, B & N’s color Nook e-Reader was the way- to- turn-to budget Android tablet for people on the know, and who used only one of the number of tools and get it rooted and then install the OS Android and market. This new great Nook Tablet is primarily just the Nook Color having the hardware update, and this may be converted to Honeycomb as easily and quickly.
When you are not that familiar with this, rooting may be the method of preventing the existing Operation system or the skin which the device will ships with, thus allowing this new ROM, mode or the operating system that will be loaded into it. Rooting provides also to more in the device’s functions.
With more power there comes more responsibility, so when you are here because you are looking in order to root your own Nook, just keep this in your own mind which the your own warranty, may brick your device and can even violate prevailing local rooting may carry its risk of the voiding laws (this has been really determined in the US to be considered legal).
Are you still that interested? OK let us proceed further and you need to have your own Nook Tablet, the cord USB and the Personal computer connected in to your own Internet. And there are various methods and tools to root just your own Nook by just using the Personal computer, Linux or Mac system, but in this we will be going through this process of having the Windows PC and the available tools from the xda developers forum. The tools are the easiest and the best there just for rooting this Nook and this forum will provide the best and great place to have support must you run on some problem.
Download the Drivers and enable USB debugging mode :-
- The initial step is just to open up the thread at this xda forum in the browser tab along the side of that one.
- Then download the files (you may also find them at this xda thread); these USB drivers that you will need for its root and ‘Zerg’ rooting script.
- And next open the target=”_blank”>You Tube video walk-through on this whole process in its own tab browser, you pause it then let it wholly buffer, this is because we are going to have to be disconnected along the network in the later step then it is the good visual resource in case you might get lost.
- And then turn on our own Nook, point at its browser into this similar xda forum thread (may be easier to be there by searching for this ‘xda root nook tablet’) and then download the apk file to enable debugging USB it is under the ‘Need files for rooting.’
- Then open the file. You will be asked to permit outside applications to run your own Nook. You do so in settings and then while you are still in settings, just tap in ‘Development and then enable both the debugging check USB boxes. And also, you must uncheck the option ‘Auto Mount.’
Instructions to root Nook Tablet
- We have already downloaded the both zip file and apk file. Now we have to extract both the files to a folder C:\ntroot\
- Next thing you have to do is Run “runmefirst.bat” and start following the instructions.
- First it will ask you to unplug your Nook Tablet and after them ask you to connect your tablet via USB to your dekstop. Keep following the instructions.
- Next open the device manager and you can probably see a Nook device with broken icon and then you have to right click and choose “update driver”. Choose “Let me specify where the driver is” and browse to the c:\ntroot\usbdriver folder and press ok. It should install and you can click “OK” to the warning about unsigned drivers.
Note:-When the batch file opens the device manager, If you don’t see a broken device icon next to “NOOK Tablet” then you may have some other generic drivers taking over. Not sure how to remove them so you will have to move to another PC that has never had a tablet hooked up and start over.7. Run “NookandZergy.bat” and follow the instructions
- If you see a long string of numbers/letters it’s your device
You must now have the rooted Nook that runs on Android Honeycomb with an access into the world of applications on the market. Just enjoy! In case the same xda forum thread, you change your own mind has the instructions for de-rooting.
How to Block OTA updates:-
- Download the files unzip them, and put all 3 into the TitaniumBackup folder on your sdcard (you need to download Titanium backup from market for this just FYI).
- Then start titanium backup, grant root if you havent already and restore “DeviceManagerService 2.3.4″ and then poof!
You have now blocked OTA’s
Update
In accordance with the reports from that xda developers forum, this Nook’s new 1.4.1update firmware that may be rolled out on this week, then disables its root access and have to remove the ability to load the third party applications. Since this update is automatically applied when the Nook is greatly connected to this Internet through WI-FI, several people will find all of themselves unable to root this device- though this root script mentioned at that above instructions disables also these air updates and so when you have not received this update this above method must work still.
When you have rooted already your own Nook prior to receiving this 1.4.1 update and then the installed apps already will work still and you will still be capable to have an access in the Android Market, BUT while you are able to have to purchase the new applications over there, you will not be able to install them then will be able to receive the message that says ‘Install blocked. This is just for security reasons, only the applications bought through the Nook shop must be installed.” Judging along the comments at the xda forum developer’s forum, Barnes and Noble must be seeing the few Nooks returned as the result of that move.
