The CES 2012 was a successful event for several mobile developers exhibiting their newest products for this year. Several of them have proven to be the massive contender having their excellent line-ups of tablets, accessories and smartphones just for the forthcoming months. This CES 2012 marked also the termination of Sony Ericsson but the birth of the new Mobile Communication from Sony.
In the same CES 2012, this formerly rumored Xperia Nozomi Sony definitely made its initial official presence, and with Sony ‘s introduction of the device as the Xperia Ion for the AT & T in the US and as this Xperia S just for the rest of the whole world.
When you are a devoted fan of Sony Ericsson Xperia before, and then you will surely love this way that Sony has kept this Xperia branding in their two newest mobile phones.

Display & Design
These Xperia Ion and the Xperia S are closely alike devices. And even though they do not look alike, these two phones share some similarities in their hardware specifications.
These two devices are approximately the same in size, having only few differences in millimeters. This Xperia Ion is only 133 mm tall and 68mm wide and while the Xperia S is only 128 mm tall and 64 mm wide. Both of these phones are closely of the similar thickness, having the Xperia Ion measuring 10.8 mm and the Xperia S measuring 10.6 mm. They have the same weight 144 grams.
This AT & T Xperia Ion is featuring the display of 4.55 inch touchscreen which is cramming up to 323 ppi but while it’s international version, this Xperia S is sporting a display of 4.3inch touchscreen having a larger pixel density of 342ppi.
Both of these phones have the same screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and have the same use of the Signature trademark of Sony display technology, this Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine.
Processor and Storage
This Xperia Ion and Xperia S came packed with the 1GB of Ram and 16GB in Internal Storage. The downside of this Xperia S is that this does not feature the MicroSD Card Slot. While the Xperia Ion features this which will support up to external storage of 32GB. Both devices are powered by a Snapdragon MSM8260 processor 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm having an Adreno 220 GPU.
Camera
At the Camera department, both of these phones are featuring a very impressive 12 MP camera which may take shots up to the maximum of 4000 x 3000 pixels as well as the 1.3 MP shooter in the front side for the video calls. Former Xperia handsets are well known for their very impressive Sony cameras. It will be such a surprise when the ones at the Xperia S and Xperia Ion will be anything less than excellent in quality.
Operating System
Both these the Xperia S and Xperia Ion are running in Gingerbread Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich throughout the year. The previous owners of the Sony Ericsson Xperia devices do not need to learn their own way around this interface, as these two devices are sporting the similar and familiar Timescape UI of their forerunners.
Conclusion
Having Sony owning already Ericsson’s share, then it is about time now that this company will shake up this competition. These Xperia S and Xperia Ion initial dual-core offerings are well promising best performance with regards to functionality and speed. But it is still very early to determine whether Sony will ever succeed with these latest Xperia offerings however it is very good to know that Sony now is integrating its own expertise in the consumer electronics for the company’s established smartphones.
