Archos Gen 8 Tablet is no doubt popular because of its hardware’s and for the users who want to hold on to their money with the attractive features. Coming with 1 GHz Cortex A8 humming along beneath the capacitive WVGA screen Archos Gen 8 is the good choice but with one major omission that is the Android Marketplace. While Archos have no plans to release Android 4.0 for its Gen 8 Line up, it doesn’t mean you cannot run any other latest OS on your android tablet.
Installing a different OS on your Android Tablet is always a interesting experience. Experiencing Ubuntu on your Archos Gen 8 Tablet, you can also feel what the other user feels in comparison to what you are currently using and where Ubuntu is meant for real computers, you can now install it on practically everything else and brings even more cool features and functionalities to your android tablet than what it had with just the stock rom. The versatility of android and its low requirements make it just perfect for the Android Tablets.
XDA Member CalcProgrammer1 who has brought linux to many android tablets before, has been working from long to bring Ubuntu on Archos Gen 8 Tablet. The developer is offering Linux experience now in the first release and has some bugs with wireless drivers and some occasional bugs here and there, but all the essential features are working pretty well.
So while there is a lot to be done, a lot has already been done and ported to Archos Gen 8 Tablet and users will soon get their hands on Ubuntu OS running on their tablets to play with.
